BROKEN HEART. Screenplay.

After watching screenplay videos on YouTube I tried to write a sample of the screenplay. I am comfortable writing " movie scripts" Based on that I can direct but we all know a screenplay is a technical document for movie making used by different departments of movie production. Director, cameraman, actors etc. Writing a screenplay is a time consuming process. It will also restrict flow of thoughts. You have to write a screenplay in present tense, that itself is the tension.
Here is an old method of screenplay writing. This method is still followed by some of the screenplay writers in south indian film industry. Take white plain paper and fold it in equal parts. Left side note is for discription / /scenes or situations. Right side note is for names and dialogues.
Here is my first attempt to adapt the first chapter of broken heart into a screenplay. The writer or director will decide how to present scenes. Both of them use their creative ideas to present scripts. Below you will find manually written screenplay.
BROKEN HEART. Screenplay.
INT/ EXT. Ajay' s house.morning . Fade in
1 A . Radha. Aged 46 .
Mother of Ajay . Walks
towards photograph
of lord Murugan and
lit a small lamp. pray
for the wellbeing of
her family members
and the world at large.
After the prayer she
goes to the kitchen.
Place a milk cooker
and pour milk in it.
Light gas stove and
took ' kola mavu "
and started making
kolam in front of her
home.
After sometime… ..
the milk cooker started
whistling.
Cut to
2 A . Krishnan . 52 years.
Ajay's father after hearing
a whistling noise gets up
from the bed and go to
the wash basin and wash
his face and wipe it with
a bath towel. He comes
to the sitting room and
started reading the newspaper.
3 A . Radha finish her
kolam work and goes to
kitchen and prepare
coffee. She pour two
cups of coffee in cups
and rest of the coffee
In a flask. In a tray she
took it to her husband.
She held out one cup of
coffee to her husband.
Radha ( with a smile)
" Koffee"
Krishnan takes coffee
without saying anything.
He started drinking.
Radha sat next to him.
Radha
" What is the special news today?"
Krishnan
" As usual, it is all about corona (covid 19)
number of people affected , number of
Number of people died....."
Radha
" I am really scared, is there no antibiotics
available for corona ?"
Krishnan
" We can only take precautions . nobody is
immune to corona, as of now there is no
antibiotics available in the market"
Radha collected
both the empty cups
and was about to go
to the kitchen.
Krishnan held her hand .
Krishnan
" Sit with me.."
Radha
" Today is not Sunday, Today is Monday .
before You go office i have to prepare
breakfast and lunch for you...."
Krishnan
" Okay, i forgot , you carry on...."
Radha went to kitchen
To prepare breakfast
And lunch. CUT TO
4 A . Ajay. 24 yrs
Opens his eyes,
table clock is showing
7.35 am. He got out
Of the room in pajama
and came to the sitting
room.
Krishnan
" Good morning, Ajay"
Ajay ( louder)
" MAA… . KOFFEE"
Radha ( OS)
" yeah, bringing.."
Ajay sat next
to his Dad.
Ajay
" Good morning, Dad"
Radha brought
coffee for Ajay.
Ajay took coffee
from her.
Krishnan
" Ajay, what is your program today?"
Ajay
" Dad, today I have to attend interview at
at C S Sholinganallur at 11 am "
Krishnan
" Good, have you prepared for interview?"
Ajay
" Yes, Dad, No worries"
Radha
" If you get job here in chennai i will break
101 Coconut at pullayar temple"
Ajay
" Maa… every time you make promises i get
job in a faraway places like Bombay
or Delhi "
Radha
" For you everything is a joke"
Krishnan handed
over Newspaper to
Ajay.
Krishnan
" I will go and freshen up"
Krishnan goes to
his room. Radha took
empty cups And went
to kitchen to prepare
Breakfast and lunch.
Ajay goes on reading
Newspaper.
At 8.15 am Ajay goes
To his room to get ready
For an interview..
At 8.45 am Radha arrange
Breakfast on the dining table.
Krishnan came out of his
Room. He is ready for
Breakfast.
Krishnan
" Ajay, come for breakfast"
Ajay
" Yeah, Dad. Coming"
Ajay came out of
his room. Well dressed
with certificate file in his
hand. He sat next to
his father. Radha starts
Serving breakfast for
them.
Krishnan
" Ajay, today I will go office
By auto, you go for interview "
Ajay
" Dad, interview is at 11 am .
There is enough time for me to
Drop you at your office".
Krishnan
" Okay, fine. Ajay "
Both of them finished
Their breakfast. Ajay
went and cleaned his
bike. Meanwhile Krishnan
and Radha came to
the main gate.
Ajay started bike.
Krishnan sat at the back.
Radha handed over
briefcase and lunch
box to krishnan.
Krishnan waved at Radha
and she waved back. Ajay
Could see their images on
rear mirror. Ajay shifted gear.
Radha
" Ajay, drive carefully"
Bike started moving…
Ajay
" Sure, Maa… "
Bike gradually faded out.
